W@TC: Worlds of Imagination: The Shared Artistry of Role-Playing Games and Theater Making in Qui Nguyen’s She Kills Monsters
The John Hope Franklin Center, Art, Art History & Visual Studies, AMES, AADS, Theater Studies, Literature, English, and Duke Arts invite you to the next Wednesdays at the Center "Worlds of Imagination: The Shared Artistry of Role-Playing Games and Theater Making in Qui Nguyen’s She Kills Monsters" with Eileen Chow, Torry Bend, and Jules Odendahl-James.

Eileen Chow is an Associate Professor of the Practice in Chinese and Japanese Cultural Studies at Duke University, and one of the founding directors of Story Lab at Duke. She is currently the Director of Graduate Studies for Duke Asian Pacific Studies Institute's East Asian Studies graduate program, and a founding/core faculty member of Duke Asian American and Diaspora Studies. Professor Chow teaches the popular Global Chinatowns class which centers on an RPG she created titled, “Miss LA Chinatown is Missing!” built from U.S. and China immigration histories in/around California from the early to the late twentieth century.

Torry Bend is an Associate Professor of the Practice in Theater Studies. A scenic designer and puppet artist whose work has been seen all over the world, in the Triangle audiences have enjoyed her The Pater Hat Game, If My Feet Have Lost the Ground, Love’s Infrastructure (commissioned by Duke Performance in collaboration with the band Bombadil), and Dreaming, with playwright Howard Craft and director JaMeeka Holloway.

Jules Odendahl-James is the Director of Academic Engagement for the Arts and Humanities at Duke and a director-dramaturg with a 20 year career of productions in the Southeast. This production marks the fifth time she and Professor Storer have collaborated at Duke with previous productions including The Laramie Project and Fefu and Her Friends. She and Professor Bend are also co-founders of the Durham company, Bulldog Ensemble Theater.
