Zoom - Security & Privacy in your Classes & Meetings - Shared screen with speaker view
Do you have selective control on admitting folks in the waiting room?
Can co-hosts share when “only host” is selected on screen share ?
Yes. You can enter everyone or particular users.
If you lock the meeting and someone looses connectivity, how can they re-join the meeting?
Ann, they cannot rejoin if it’s locked.
If someone loses connectivity, the host can temporarily ‘un-lock’ the meeting. This setting is located in the same place as ‘lock’ meeting.
Richard Biever Jr
Ann, this happened to me this morning. Someone let me know they were locked out, and I unlocked the meeting so that they could re-join.
Don’t lie: you look great, John :)
Thanks! (Trying to figure this out for a board meeting)
I have a Zoom desktop client, same way to change settings, yes?
Where is he making these recording updates?
For certain settings, you can only make them at duke.zoom.us – we recommend starting there.
Some settings can only be changed online
Rabih Younes, Ph.D.
Can I share recordings with only specific students?
Rabih, you can - it’s a URL that you can send via email or other communication limited to the students you want to see the content.
Debrah, if that link were subsequently forwarded but a student however, there'd be no protection, correct?
We’ll get to that in just a moment – Dr. Younes!
sorry forwarded by that should say.
Rabih Younes, Ph.D.
Thank you! I’m definitely interested in what @Jay said
Are there any advantages of using Sakai to schedule zoom meetings? I heard that there are advantages not to schedule through sakai. Just wondering.
Roy, it allows TAs to schedule too if they have sections. It’s all steamlined so hosts don’t have to send out additional information
We were previously scheduling mtgs and posting the links to the calendar in Sakai. This tool removed that 2nd step
How long are Zoom recordings available? Will they eventually be deleted/removed?
Hi John - right now we don’t have a default policy for that - we are working on it.
Duke Box would allow you to limit to specific users only.
John — if you’re looking to have a cloud recording deleted after a certain amount of time, there is a setting in Zoom where you can set those permissions for your cloud recordings
Are breakout rooms also recorded? We understand that the main lectures are recorded but that breakout rooms are not recorded. Can you clarify.
Is there a way to use the authenticated user option with participants outside of Duke?
Cloud recordings will be held for 5 years. While recordings may be stored and shared directly from your Zoom account, consider using an appropriate public facing hosting site (Warpwire, Sakai, or public service such as YouTube) if you plan on providing wide access to your recording. You may also download recordings to store in department/program specific data repositories like Box or OneDrive
Is there a plan to give wider access to webinars ?
But that means that each participants have to record locally, not the teacher, is that right?
Roy - yes they would make a local recording and you would have to have a process for them to share it with you
Just for Zoom sessions
can one join a zoom meeting anonymously? That is, just to listen in to a class without having your name shown? I think I did this for a class that I team teach, and was wondering if others can do this as well if I am hosting the class?
Yes, by default users can make their name whatever they’d like it to be. But there is a setting that you can enable for ‘users cannot change name’.
I notice that I have an option called "hide self view"what does this do? Does the host still see my name? Do all of the other participants know that I am on line?
If someone logs on by phone, we only see the phone number. How do you authenticate these?
does everyone see you
how do you reshow yourself
There’s a feature to have everyone record their name, but everyone needs to do it.
If they are a duke user, but log in by phone I assume they would not be allowed to log into the meeting
We are hosting a session tonight with some current and past students. Some students are no longer "duke" students and are at their home universities. If their school uses Zoom, they won't be able to connect to our Zoom if they don't have a duke account anymore. OPtions for these people: Video streaming or calling in?
Authenticated = Duke only. I have a waiting room and a password set up.
But if we are doing external events on Zoom do we any other option other than publishing the url ?
I have a question about webinars
I know we are talking about class & mtg security. Can you speak to related concerns for public events, public talks/panels (not closed mtgs, yes - publicly advertised)
Chat as well can be locked down.
would webinars be a good option for events ?
If so is there a plan to get us webinar access
Webinars are fee-based add-ons.
So there is no plan to roll out webinars widely ?
Timothy - no there is not.
Is Mailchimp a no no ?
Amy Dickson, M.B.A.
Whats the problem with Mailchimp?
Amy Dickson, M.B.A.
Ive been trying to get access to Emma for months and have been told that I can’t get access?
Richard Biever Jr
We don’t have a contract with Mailchimp
How do I tell what version of the zoom client I have?
Elizabeth: Click on zoom.us in the top right of the desktop client and then click ‘About Zoom’ (for a Mac)
