Cleaning up without messing up session 2: the need for a regulatory framework for implementation of clean-up technologies

While removal of plastics benefits the environment, the effectiveness of these solutions as well as potential costs should be taken into account in decision-making, yet this area remains understudied.Furthermore, there are no regulations regulating negative ecosystem impacts or ensuring that monitoring occurs from development to implementation of technologies. In the lead up to the global negotiations for a global plastic agreement, it is timely to discuss the role of and pitfalls pertaining to clean-up technologies.
