Semiconductors are a critical technology, powering everything from telecommunica+ons to cars to defense systems. Critically, the innovative nature of the semiconductor industry relies on a deeply globalized supply
chain in which the U.S. and Taiwan play outsized roles. Critically, China is investing heavily to bolster its own semiconductor industry, and the U.S. government is similarly preparing efforts to support the industry as it seeks to retain its historic technological leadership.

Dr. Denis Simon (Duke University) will moderation the China Innovation Series 2022.

In his current position, Mr. Goodrich leads SIA’s global policy team and works to advance SIA’s international and trade policy agenda to ensure the U.S. semiconductor industry maintains its competitiveness in key markets across the globe. He is the Executive Committee Chair of the United States Information Technology Office (USITO) in Beijing, representing SIA in his capacity. Before joining SIA, Mr. Goodrich was director of global policy at the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) in Washington D.C., and he also worked for Cisco Systems in Beijing as director for Greater China government affairs. Mr. Goodrich has a bachelor’s degree in comparative politics and East Asian studies from Ohio University. He is fluent in Mandarin. Denis Simon (Senior Adviser to the President for China Affairs and Professor of the Practice @Duke University Fuqua School of Business) Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Simon has more than four decades of experience studying business, competition, innovation and technology strategy in China. In 2006, he was awarded the China National Friendship Award by Premier Wen Jiabao in Beijing. Prior to returning to Duke, Dr. Simon served as Executive Vice Chancellor at Duke Kunshan University in China (2015-2020). Simon’s career included spells as senior adviser on China and global affairs in the Office of the President at Arizona State University; vice-provost for international affairs at the University of Oregon; and professor of international affairs at Penn State University’s School of International Affairs. He also has had extensive leadership experience in management consulting having served as General Manager of Andersen Consulting in Beijing (now Accenture) and the Founding President of Monitor Group China.
